Help Needed Cut out driving down the road?

I was on my way home from work today cruising along at 55 and all at once it was like i had no fuel. I could push on the pedal and nothing, it would smoke like crazy out the exhaust but would not pick itself up. Its done this once before but i had a blown intercooler hose and i thought it was the problem. Ive fixed it since. It seems to do it at random, usually about the time the thermostat would open for the first time after start up. If i lift off the pedal for a second or two i can get back on it and it runs fine.

Anyone have any ideas?

check for a sticking egr valve.

thats what i think too never hurts to take it out and clean it anyways... or take it off and leave it off (egr delete kit)
