I have noticed that when I have the cruise set and im traveling down the road if I touch the brakes the cruise control does not disengage. The engine will actuall try to get the truck back up to the set speed even though I'm trying to slow the truck down. Was there a recall or anything on this or is/has anyone else having this problem?

Check your brake lights. They trigger the Speed Control to disconnect when you want to slow down. Can you disengage the Speed Control (turn off) manually?

The recall was on trucks that have a "nose switch" in the master cylinder. The switch would leak, then short out and start an electrical fire.
Ford used this setup so you could still disengage the cruise with the brake pedal if there was a problem with the brake light circuit.
I can see the logic either way.
Best not use the cruise until you get this figured out, so you don't "Toyota" off a bridge or something...

x2....You can go to Ford's website and type in your VIN# and it will post any recalls that are on your truck. I had the same problem with my 96 F250. I noticed a burning smell when I had the key on and then I found the plug glowing (red hot) on the master cylinder. When you tap the brakes, that is suppose to pick it up in the master cyclinder and shut off the cruise control. They only did the recall on the 99-03 models.....not the OBS trucks.

If I hit the brake pedal hard and let off as quickly it will cancel the Cruise. Just trying to easily slow down with presure on the brake does not disengage it. Daveben, it can be cancelled with the control buttons on the steering wheel.

It looks like your "Deactivation Switch" is the culprit. This is located on the Front of the Brake Master Cylinder. It has a two wire connector that plugs into the Deactivation Switch. This is what you need. It is called Speed Control Deactivation Switch. Note: after the switch is replaced, it is necessary to bleed the brake system. Good Luck and this part does not look too expensive.

Hey Dave,

Went to the stealership today to get the Speed Control Deactivation Switch and he had the switch that goes on the end of the Master Cylinder but when he pulled it up in the system he said there were two switches listed but he could not tell me where the second switch was located. He printed the schematic out and said that he thought there was a switch under the steering column that might be what it was referring to but he did not have one in stock. Any Ideas????????????

yep its on the upper brake pedal arm,
some were to sensitive and would cause the cruise to cut off on bumpy highways
then the switch they put in was to some, to hard to trip
my 06 if you hit the pedal from the side with a good snap of the foot it would drop off
but if you tapped it on the edge like you were stopping it would not always cut off, but instead do like yours , speed right back up.
the steering switch is probably the easiest to shut it off with our jamming the brakes

if its any consolation the 150 i have now is just as bad, IMO i have to depress the brake to much to cut it off, and this truck has very very sensitive brakes, they stop you in short order.
