My cousin called me tonight and said when he changed his fuel filter yesterday, there was a lot of crap (rust?, dirt, etc) in the bottom of the fuel filter housing. Anybody know how to clean it out? He said he couldn't get a rag down in there to wipe it out because of the heating element. Any ideas?

Truck is a 2002 F350 CC LB 4x4 with Edge Evo.

Thanks.

Well, the last one we ran across we 1/2 filled the housing with diesel and used a turkey baster to suck it out.

You could open the drain and try to flush it through there but you subject the orings in the valve to that abrassive crap. Might start leaking.

When my housing ended up like this....

I had to remove the heater element and use carb cleaner and towels to get it to look like this. IIRC it's the same torx bit as the factory fuel pressure regulator housing screws.

I still cringe to think that stuff passed through my pump. Not with the Dahl now.:D

I just did mine and it wasn't that bad. I opened the drain and broke it up with mineral spirits and a solvent brush.

Although my truck is the old body, I had the same deposits and removed the heater and wiped it out with paper towels. Broke my heater and now I dont have one. Been without for a month and no problems. I broke it by wiping it first, not by removing it.
