tbar- sad thing is i can not find my CD manual since i sent you those pages on hub removal. how embarrassing for me.

so if i am reading the other posts, the sliding sline CAN be engaged with the hub selector in AUTO mode? thats ridiculous.

so i guess i am gonna have to at least get the beast into the air and see what is going on. so much for a weekend off.

thanks all

The easiest way to tell is to remove the hubs from the truck. (remove the large round c-clip and slide the hub out) The outerside (outer plastic) and innerside (where the axle goes) should spin separate from one another if so they are unlocked. It's been a while and I can't quite remember how to manually disengage the hubs once they are removed from the truck, but it can be done.

I know that the last time mine starting acting up (wouldn't engage or disengage properly) I went and bought a set of warn's.

what was the part number for the warn`s, if you remember.....-popcorn

to manually disengage, push on the plastic plunger inside the hub till you hear it click....

The only hubs that I know of that warn makes are manually actuated hubs. That's what I have. The only draw back is having to get out of the truck to engage them. All that I did when I installed mine was blocked off the vacuum lines that engage the factory auto hubs up close to the vacuum pump. (located on the pass. side inner fender) I have not had a problem with mine since.

ATK, The warn part# for the ones I installed in my truck is #38826. I believe they fit Ford SRW F250 and F350 trucks 78-04. Superwinch also makes them too.

thanx for part #....have you used the Superwich hubs. i know they use to have a premium hub that was suppose to be good, but always used or replaced with the Warn units....

The only hubs that I have ever bought are the warn premium hubs. I have never had one break or give me serious trouble. I do have a buddy with a stock 99 F250 with superwinch hubs which have also been problem free. His truck see's a fair amount of abuse he plows with it in the winter and hauls a large goose neck flatbed in the good weather.

in the "off highway world" Warns are the only way to go. I have personally broke (grenaded) Spicers, Mile Markers, and selectro's all playing in the mud. I've seen Superwinch hubs grenade on a buddies truck in some very mild rock crawling.... I blew one set of warns in the mud, but I also broke both front axles and a drive shaft at the same time ;) I've got Warn Premiums on two of my trucks, and drive flanges on the rock buggy. I've been considering Warns for the SD, but I haven't done it yet.
