coolant leak behind engine fan?

Jhondeerebones, I have used what they call the proper tool, snap-on fan removal kit and I also resort back to the trusty old wrench. I must always get the stubborn ones only 1 out of 5 ever comes off for me with just using a wrench. Maybe has something to do with that dam Canadian salt they spread on the roads up here!

Well, i waited too long and blew the pump. fluid drains as fast as i can fill it now. no one in town had a wrench big enough yet thin enough to remove the clutch fan and the ONLY parts shop that rented one had just rented it out before i got there.

I tried to remove the water pump with the fan on but there isn't enough room and i ended up breaking a 10mm open end and stripping a bolt. i've no idea how i'm going to get it out. it's so tight in there. i cant even get the fan housing off cause it's not split and won't slip out with the fan attatched.

It's going to be a long night.

The fan clutch is a reg right hand thread, I just did mine. If you have an air chisel, you can give the nut on the clutch a few taps ,(counter clockwise). Or a hammer and a drift if you don't have air tools.I won't take much to loosen it.Worse case , I have heard of some using a pipe wrench to hold the pulley, (not recommended)....

You are correct action4478. the fan threads are regulaur right hand! the manual tells me it's left hand and so i spent two hours whacking on it with a four pound sledge. figured since my truck was built in canada, it might be the opposite way so i tried it and it spun right off. i guess it dont have nothing to do with canada if yours was the same thread... unless yours was built up north as well?

the rest of the swap out whent smoothly, however since it was dark when i finished i wasnt able to account for all of my open end wrenches... that is untill 70 miles from home when the fan grabbed a 10mm and thrusted it into my radiator.

Thank God for putty weld and fix leak pellets!
