Coolant Capacity / Lower hose cost ?

When Bartman & I were fushing my trans he found that
the lower radiator hose had a nasty rub (nearly thru).

wondering if anyone knows the capacity of the coolant system
(figure ill dump the old coolant...even though i shouldnt have to)...
i know im gonna have to drain the system to get the lower hose off
and replaced.

anyone know how many gallons the system holds ?

any idea of what the lower hose costs ?

Just changed mine to Evans and baught seven gallons, only used six and I have a coolant filter (maybe an extra quart or so) also I drained the block and heater core for a more complete replacement. Dont know about the hose, sorry.

thanks...why evans though ? why not stay w/ the OE Gold ?
I have a coolant filter too (i just put the filter on so i probably
will just leave it on).

when you say six gallons is that PRE-mixed ? 50/50 ? surely you didnt
put 100% strength in...

evans is a waterless replacement so there is no mixing. I ussually just get the premixed 50/50 cause its already mixed with distilled and 6 gallons will get you good.

evanscooling.com Yes full strength, no water at all. Pretty awesome stuff, doesnt boil till 375 degs doesnt freeze till -40, no need for SCAs, runs at about 7 PSI, dont change till 100K. Spendy though, 32 bucks a gallon. (edit) Just got the truck back from the dealer, they changed the oil cooler becuase it was restricted. the tech said the factory gold coolant occasionally clogs them. Now dont go hating ME, thats just what the tech said as we were cruising along with the scan tool hooked up reading 265 deg oil temp.

I believe there was a TSB out for that lower hose rubbing. You might want to check the dealarship. They did mine for nothing.

tie rod (or is it the steering control arm)...when you turn the
steering wheel the bar rubs the lower hose.

the TSB provided for a "nylon stocking" to go over the hose...the
stocking doesnt stay in place though....mine has the "stocking"...

im well beyond my 3/36 warranty...and id rather do the work myself
than let someone 1) make excuses and mess it up or 2) spend more
time trying to find something ELSE that they can charge for rather
than FIX whats wrong.

the lower hose is 30 bucks, coolant isnt more than about 11 bucks
a gallon last time i bought it (for the xerox G-05 Gold)...ill need 3 gallons
of coolant and 3 gallons of distilled water at the most ill be into this
for less than 70 bucks...and i wont have to deal w/ scheduling or
being w/out the truck for god knows how many days.

Um... why not just collect what you have and put it back in? If it's not bad enough to change it on a regular service, why change it now? Save yourself the money. 5 gallon bucket would catch just about everything anyway...

I initially considered re-use...but for less than 35 bucks im not
sure i wanna worry about the possible contamination (i dont have
a GOOD CLEAN/NEW bucket large enough to hold 6 GALLONS of
coolant, while i replace the hose).

as it is ive gotta go DUMP 6 gallons of OIL and 5 Gallons of Trans
Fluid just to GET a container large enough so i can DRAIN the coolant.
