Hey fellas. I have been reading on this site about the coolant filter and my question is that if the coolant filter is necessary and if the one they offer on dieselsite.com is the way to go. I have been wondering whether or not to install one on my truck. I guess I just need a little convincing. Also, what is a good brand of coolant(antifreeze) to use on my truck. Any kind of info would be much appreciated.:thanks

dont deviate from the factory GOLD coolant....its available just
about anywhere these days (used to be harder to get)...just confirm
the spec. level by whats on the jug & what your owners manual says.

coolant filter...well its cheap insurance...its a bypass filter so its not
really gonna have an effect on the flow or pressure...the blocks arent
washed out very well from the factory...theres lots of sand and casting
material left behind (you should be able to see it and in the bottom
of your overflow/fill bottle....

i installed my dieselsite coolant filter (truck had about 10k miles on it)
and the 1st filter PLUGGED FULL of sand and "garbage" in less than 1000mi,
my 2nd filter was plugged in probably less than 3k miles and ive been
on my 3rd filter now in nearly 8k miles.

you can tell the filter is full/plugged when it no longer is warm (hot actually)
to the touch after driving.

Well I don't know about the International version of 6.0, but the International version of the 7.3L has a coolant filter built into the water pump. That's enough convincing for me.:D

The hammering of the combustion on diesels also knocks alot of the casting sand and trash loose that's not normally seen on a gasser.

Get some coolant that meets your manual's spec. I had a hard time finding the G-05 Zerex coolant where I live.:dunno Ford will have the Motorcraft Gold.:sweet

rooster echo's some good points, that i glanced over...
consider the price of a water pump, plus the time to put it
on yourself or pay a shop...if the sand & castings are filtered
and CAUGHT in the filter youll extend the life of the water pump.

i found the g05 zerex at autozone...

Thanks for the info guys. I am pretty sure that I will install the coolant filter. What could it hurt. Just need to come up with the cash first. I just hope the damage isn't already done to the water pump. It looks like a pain in the butt to change out.
