I am considering selling my "X" with217K and buying a 2006 F 350 4X4 CC Dully with 30K+/-
I have read many horror stories about the 6.0 but I believe that most problems were solved by 2006. My question is MPG with 3:73/4:10/and 4/30 (4:30 I do not need)
Thanks for any replies

I had the same fears about buying a 6.0, because I had heard a lot of people repeating things they HEARD about it. But then I started asking people who actually HAVE a 6.0, and I realized that there are not that many issues. The horror stories are mostly urban myth.

HERE is another thread recently posted. It answers your question fairly well. I can tell you I love my 6.0, and have had no problem with it.

Long trip to Texas and back for Christmas in my dually. Checked fuel milage by hand with a calculator.

'06 F-350, CC, 4x4, 6.0 PSD, 5r110 auto, 3.73 gears. Running empty.

15 MPG at 75 MPH hwy with cruise control
17 MPG at 64 MPH hwy with cruise control

I get 10 - 11 mpg pulling my 28' travel trailer with cruise set at 63 mph and about 13 - 14 mpg running around town.

My driving style is pretty conservative. I ain't always swapping lanes on the highway, I don't gas on it stop light to stop light with the rest of the pack

Yes sir.

Factory 3.73 ratio and the GCWR is 23,500, same as the 4.10 ratio. I like it better than the 4.10 I had in my 2000 dually.

It's the standard ratio on the '08 F350 diesel dually too, doesn't matter if it's manual or auto. The 4.10 and 4.30 are optional

Thanks for all the replies, the MPG almost mirror my "X" with 217K and a life of 15.3 MPG.
If you keep your right foot on and egg sheel mileage will improve.

thats pretty cool...when did they change that ?
didnt it use to be drw=4.10 ?

i like also that they are (once again) defaulting to the
3.55 on the 6.4L srw's (would still like to have that on mine)

on edit - checking some web sites...3.55 r&p is not that
bad (250 bucks)...interestingly enough there is a 3.08 available
for the sterling 10.5" rear...but most of the sites seem to be
"sold out" of those (no doubt w/ 3 dollar per gallon fuel)

I honestly don't know when that changed. I wouldn't mind 3.55 either, anything much higher than that is overkill for me because all I pull is travel trailers.

I did a 4:10 to 3.08 swap in my '90 dually a couple years ago as a fuel milage experiment. Gears and installation kit cost me about $325 and a buddy of mine that owned a 4x4 shop at the time owed me a favor so he installed them for free.

Was able to get almost an extra 5 mpg on the highway cruising 62-63 mph. did about 3 mpg better in the city but performance suffered greatly on a N/A 7.3 IDI engine. I gave the guy that bought it from me the original 4.10 gears but he ended up swapping in 3.73 and put a turbo on it.
