i need some help dealing with i belive is the "gem" module,
my truck is acting like it has beed taken over by the devel himself,
i must disconect both battries or i will not have any juice in just a fue hours,
the dash lights come on for no reason, the bells and gongs also work, the dome light works while the doors are closed, and the door locks go up and down,
all this goes on till i remove power to whole truck.

i have been told it is the gem module but at the cost of a new one i would hate to replace it and find out it is something else, :dunno

also the local dealer is just a ripoff had the truck in there and all i got back was a heavy bill and a burned out horn unit. plus both batt were dead. :(

truck

1999 F250 superduty, 445 ci diesel (some call it a 7.3 liter) with the auto trani. bone stock.

i have not cut any wires or added anything to any system on the truck.
the only add on is a power lead for a cb and one for a ham radio, both of these leads start and end at the batt, go through a fuse block and return to the same batt. completly indapendet from any wire or system on the truck.

Need more info

Does it have the OEM batteries? I know stupid question, but if they are, MAN if I were a bettin man I'd say bad cell. The truck becomes possesed if the voltage starts droppin. Just try startin the truck with dead batts and watch the wipers come one, and signals start, etc... Anyway make sure you have good tight contacts, there is water in the batt's, you have 13V give or take when everything is off and if all that checks out, then start lookin at the GEM. (if it turns out to be the GEM, I've got a couple layin around just let me know ;) )

gem

well things have returned to how they are suposed to be.

for a couple of weeks i would just disconnect both batt's and this way i would have juce to get to / home from work.

but last week i started to connect a charger to the truck, batts not hooked up, (motor turns over faster, could just have been low batt) well for the past couple of days while they are hooked up, and sofar no problems.
the battries were only six months old so maybe a bad cell someware, but the "guage" said ok. need to check them.(i do not have a load tester) fluid level is ok both of them. :dunno :thanks
if any thing else happens i will post here.

Did the problem get worse after it rained or you washed the truck?
There was a problem with the winshield leaking where you cant see it and drowning the GEM and the back of the fuse block it bolts to. You have all the symptoms of this. If this is happening it will lead to bigger worse problems if ignored. If you do have this problem and you are lucky all that is neded is to remove, clean, and dry the GEM and the back of the fuse block (and fix the leak of course). At the worst you will need a new GEM and fuse block.
Good Luck
