Ok so it has gotten that winter chill going 18 last night and truck started kinda rough in the AM...
My meter is telling me that my block heater is open and it is for sure not doing any good to leave plugged in for sevral hours.......

My Question is is it fused or has my heater rod broken????:dunno

block heater

Your in luck, I just changes mine after it failed last year, the meter should read 14 ohms across the two terminals, you just need to replace it. a cord wouldn't be a bad idea either they get stressed at the plug and usually a wire breaks, they cost about $70 from the dealer. make sure you burp the cooling system after you change the block heater too, air pockets can kill a diesel engine, remove cap and run truck till warm. Keep trucking.

and don't forget to unplug it before starting the engine in the morning..
that's what kills most of them.. a rush of cold coolant burns it out.

I've never had an issue with the heater element. But the cord has given me problems on about 4 occasions.
