How cold is cold?

i warm it up for about 20 min
If you don't have a high idle chip setting it never will really warm up.

How many miles on your oil?

Have you thought of a winter front grille cover?

If 16*F is a rare low temp for your area I'd stick with 15W40 and keep using your block heater. Here our yearly low is about 20*F and I've always run 15W40.

Forget cardboard. I use gray foam pipe insulation that I pre-cut to fit in the grille holes. Works like a charm. Total cost $3-$5

Sounds good to me , I do have question, do you live in northern or southern CA, with that 20* low i would think below Palmdale or above Sacramento.
I have only been here for about six months but the locals i have talked to said 16-18* happens, and we are out in the flatlands the nearest big town is Conway. The next time i talk to WD-40 down in Benton i'll ask. ( below Little rock) i think he is a homeboy but i know he jumps back and forth to TX.. ok, Thanks again for the input their is just a ton of know how out there.. rich..
