I use this one... let me tell you about FAST when building or repairing wiring harnesses... squeeze, apply solder, release... give it a couple seconds to cool, slide the shrink tube across the joint, and heat gun it tight..

I rewired my boat trailer in about fifteen minutes with this thing...

You were using 60/40 solder and not 95/5. The later is for plumming and you have to use a blowtorch. Those don't run on cold heat.:sweet Hot heat is all you can getwith those. This is what we use at work but I think its overkill for anything other than my job.

It has a foot pedal too! You can dial this thing to an exact temperature and desoldering is a snap with the soldering iron that has a vaccuum in it.

I got one on sale a while back and I'm glad it was on sale because it's a POS. Whoever mentioned the split tip thing was right on. It's a pain to get used to and you pretty much need the small solder wire. I wouldn't get another if it were free.
