Hey guys, brand new to the forum.
Trying to help a friend with his 99 F250.
Truck is a 99 7.3. When pressing in the clutch pedal. nothings happening.
The truck is currently in neutral, so he can start it up, but cant get it into gear.
Hes replaced the slave cyl, but im wondering if this could be related to the master cyl as well. This is kind of where I expect the problem to lie, but im a volkswagen guy, and our fwd transmissions are waaayyy different.

Is there anything internal that i should know about, or look for?
he says theres a panel with about 8 bolts on the side of the tranny casing, is this something i can take off to check the throw out bearing and what not?

Also, is there anything out of the ordinary to dropping the transmission, in case i have to go to that extent?

Thanks in advance.

-Josh.

Are you sure the clutch is good? There should be an inspection cover generally the lower half of the bellhousing. Through there you should be able to see if the throwout bearing is moving or damaged. I would try to bleed the hydraulic system at the slave cylinder that should tell you if the master is good or not. Removal of the transmission is the same as any other rear wheel drive vechile. The last manual pickup I had did this, I also thought it was a hydraulic problem and it turned out to be the clutch. Good luck! If you have any more questions just ask.

Look carefully at the clutch pedal assembly. There is a plastic sleeve on the pivot pin that wears out, as does the pin. I had to change both in my '93 and it was a bit of a job but it worked. Almost no money involved, but some labor is involved. :)

That plate that you referred to on the side of the transmission is where the PTO (power take-off unit) would be mounted. It should be six bolts. As Patrick said, your best bet is to remove the inspection cover and check things over.
