Question CK-4 Rating Okay for the 6.0?

I asked this in another thread of mine in the 6.0 Engine and Drivetrain forum. Just bought Delo 400 XSP 5W-40 synthetic since the Delo 400 LE 5W-40 synthetic seems to be discontinued. The XSP is the CK-4 rated but says it is fine for the CJ-4 rating and all other applications. I'm assuming it's okay to use in the 6.0 but I'm not the expert. I'm due for an oil change in a couple hundred miles and wouldn't mind knowing for sure. Any thoughts or evidence?

Have you looked at the Lubrication Engineers oils? Their 8700 is CJ-4 rated. I have ran it for awhile
now and it seems fine. It has good base oil and lots of cleaners. If you have used Delo (like I did) this oil
will clean the oil rings out. Delo has better base oil but the additive package isnt the best. Rotella
is the other way around. The 8700 is what several the 6.0 owners are using around me.

I get the 5-gal pail and it is delivered to my door either the next day or the day after. They are pretty close
to me though.

Ford's official stance is no CK-4 dual rated oils, that is CK-4/SN in any PSD. This is based on valve train wear seen in the 6.7. Ford's blanket statement is silly because there is no evidence that any of the other PSD offerings, 7.3, 6.0 and 6.4 experience the same results. (Except the 6.4, which had rocker arm tip wear even with CJ-4 oils likely because of crappy metallurgy or design.)
If you believe that Ford is correct, Delo and Delvac is not on their approved list, but Rotella and Valvoline Premium Blue are.
If you believe the oil companies that have done design and testing, and are successfully being used in every other major manufacturers engines, then by all means pour it in and run it.
Personally, I have no issue with CK-4 in the 6.0, but I still would only run a 5w40 in extreme cold, opting for a 10w30 for anything except a temperature below about 20 degrees.

We usually work through Jim Kukisski 61-six-460-994-nine

For regular 5000 mile drain intervals we just use the 8700 in the 7.3s and 6.0s. Their 88xx or 81xx series
is for extended drain intervals. Check with Jim and see what he says about it for your engine type and use.

I want to stick with the 5W-40 Synthetic. I can get Rotella T6 and Mobil 1 at Walmart today. I will be needing to change the oil tomorrow it looks like. I don't remember what my NAPA has on hand. Suggestions there in the mean time?

I would run the Rotella then.
Nothing wrong with that oil at all.

Exchanged the CK-4 Delo for some Rotela T6 today at Wally World. Heading out now to change it and the fuel filters. Also, bought the fuel pump/filter drain plug replacement to make that job easier in the future.
