Check Engine Light on

Got up this morning to the CEL shining on the dash. I drove down to AutoZOne to get the code and the tech said their was no power to the point where the code reader was plugged into. The tech said that means that there is a fuse blown in the fuse box which has triggered the CEL. Sure enough I checked the fuses and a 20 was blown. I've replaced that fuse and now how do I reset the CEL so it will go off?

Get the code re-read and have them reset the CEL. Not being able to read the code does NOT set the CEL, there is a code in there somewhere.

that makes sense ,, I wonder why the fuse blew however

Ive gotta find my owners manual to lookup the fuse that I found blown. The only thing that I knew that was not working was the Cig lighter. Haven't checked it to see if it is now working. Gonna wait until tonight to check it. Too hot at 104 ambient temperature to be outside of the AC right now.

Checked the Owners manual and the blown fuse is fuse 12 which is for the Cigar lighter / OBD II which substantiates what the tech said about no power is a blown fuse. I'm still going to carry it back and see if there is a code in there.

Zmann,

I dont smoke thus no need for the cig lighter but I do have a need for the power port. Wifes phone charger, my phone charger, GPS, etc.... Once they counted cupholders, I count power ports.

Now if I can just find a good dove field to drive to.... :hunter

Got the code

Carried it back to AutoZone and pulled the code

P2262 which says the Turbo/Supercharger boost pressure is not detected.

Explanation: The ECM has detected a fault in the turbo/supercharger boost system

Probable Cause:
Open or short circuit condition
Poor Electrical Connection
Faulty ICP Sensor
EGR System Fault
Engine Mechanical Condition

Now here is where you smart fellows come in to play. Tell me what your years of experience says is going on here. The truck runs fine. No lose of power. The turbocharger is running. Prior to it coming on my wife had hooked up a tandem axle trailer to carry some folding tables. That was less than 2500 lbs trailer and tables. Only pulled it about 10 miles. I dont think that would have anything to do with it but that was what was going on when the light came on. The oil and fuel filters were just changed 200 miles ago. I Dont know where to even start???? :confused:

I have got to say the trailer/ water intrusion or some other issue killed the OBD power AKA fuse and through a code

reset it and go from there IMHO

What Zmann sez... And/or, disconnect Both batteries for about 30 minutes. While they're disconnected... clean the posts & clamps up REAL GOOD.

Disconnecting the batts will erase the code.. and reset the CEL. Corroded connections could be the gremlin setting the code. (Poor Electrical Connection)

A Place To Start ?

The place to start was the beginning and end. I pulled the positive cables off both batteries and under each clamp was some white powder corrosion. Cleaned it all off with a battery post brush and cleaned the clamps with the same brush. Sprayed both batteries with Battery acid neutrilizer then washed it all down witha little clean water. Wiped it all down and reattached the clamps after 20 -30 minutes. Sprayed each post and clamp with some Rem-Oil. The CEL is no longer shining and after three trips is still off.

Thats why it is good to know you smart people. Dealership would have gotten at least an hour of shop time and probably would have started changing parts instead of checking the simple thinks first. It was the simplest and cheapest thing that caused the problem.

What can I do to the batteries to keep that from happening again? Use to put a little motor oil on the post growing up but it was nasty. Thats why I put a little Rem-Oil. What about those little green and red wool looking things that you can put on each post? Do they help?
