Our family went to HI back in 1986 and Pearl Harbor was one of the places we visited.
It was a very humbling experience, even as a 15 year old.
Being out there on the memorial, above the USS Arizona, seeing the oil still leaking upto the water's surface, and all those names of the ones that died in service was very touching.
Every Time I went thru "Pearl", when I was on active duty, I went to the Arizona Memorial. Every Time.
To Me, and many others, It ranks right at the TOP, along with ALL Memorials that Honor those who have fought, and died for what we have, and who we are.. Today.
But for me personally ? The Arizona ? has a Special Meaning. It's a Special Place.
You stand Astride, but yet, On-board, The Real Deal. A US NAVY Battleship that is still, A Ship of the Line. With 1200+, Soles on board. Still Serving, with Pride and Dignity.
Pearl Harbor, Ford Island, Kaneohe Bay, Hickam AFB. Put up A Gallant Fight... But The Enemy ?.... Woke The Sleeping Bear.
THERE. The Big 3 barely mentioned December 7th, 1941. But I hope I said something, albeit a bit late and personal, in remembrance.
(If you ever visit Hawaii, or go there again ? And you didn't go the other time(s) ? Take time for the Arizona Memorial. I swear you'll go away with a bit of a different take on things. As Bama said: Humbled)
