You will not need it in the front differential. One does not use the front that much, even if you have posi in the front. The rear is another story. I can't answer this for you as I have not gone to syn oils in the diffs.

For the diffs I run Amsoil which requires no friction modifier and from what I've read is that Schaeffers Gear Lube doesn't need modifier.

I use Amsoil for the truck and Royal Purple for the 5.0L both 75w-140 modifier not needed.

unless you can find someone to sell you smaller quantities, you will be buying 5 gallons of scheaffers for the rear.

i went with redline and QS.

Rp??

Got a few questions on drivetrain fluid changes...

Does anyone know if RoyalPurple's MaxGear lube required the friction modifier to be added?

Can the diff lube be in both axles drained w/o removing the covers?

What is the consensus on the best ATF for the xfer case? I'm changing mine for the fist time myself.

THANKS!!

I was told that you do not need modifier on royal purple gear lube and as far as the transfer case i use schaffers synthic atf you have to remove the cover to get all the oil out of the diff the way i see it. i hope this helped.

friction modifier can always be added later if you have the clutch chatter symptoms. you wont hurt anything by leaving it out but you may have that annoying chatter while cornering if you need it.

when switching to some of these specialty synthetic oil companies i would say leave it out, and see how the diff does. if its chattering around then you need to add it, and do several slow figure 8's in a parking lot to work it in.
