CCV Mod on a 6.0??

Can the CCV mod be done on a 6.0? I've looked around and all the posts I found refer to this mod on the 7.3's. I’ve got some oil coming out of the lower boot that attaches to the intercooler. The funny thing is, it’s fairly clear looking- could this be oil from the turbo? The truck only has about 10,000 miles on it so it seems premature to have a problem with the turbo…

I also have some oil around the bottom of the bell housing. I poked around under there with an inspection mirror and both sides of the bedplate are “wet” looking. Could this possibly come from the intercooler? Seems unlikely for it to make it all the way back there- Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Don't try to bandage fix these problems your self. It is a know problem with some bedplates that they can leak. You can not do the CCV mod or it will void your warranty. There is no CCV Mod for the 6.0 that I know of. You could invent one if you like.

ya- I'd guess BAND-AID's don't make good gaskets. Just curious how common/serious a little “seepage” is. It doesn’t appear to be much. I’ll have the techs look at it next time I’m over at the dealer. Thanks again!

the bedplate (at the trans) is CLEARLY a different leak than
the typical seeping that can be seen at the flex lines/clamps
at the intercooler (CAC) connections.

cars and motorcycles have NOT been allowed (for MANY YEARS),
by the EPA, to vent the crank case "pressure" into the atmosphere.

most implementation of PCVs RE-CIRCULATE the air/pressure
and its oiled mist back into the intake system(s) (typically the airbox).

the issue (or evidence) is exacerbated in our diesels by the
higher boost pressures...if there is a leak (even the slightest) this
oiled mist WILL find it.

about the best you can do (since theres no after market solution)
is to either build your own CCV venting system or tighten down
the CAC clamps (and continue to either ignore or wipe down the
hoses).

EVERY 6.0 i've ever seen has signs of this seepage.
some owners are more anal about keeping their engine bay clean...
at least at the top (where its more obvious)...

when you find one of those trucks (the clean ones) look down on
the frame rail (passenger side) and see if theyre keeping that area
as clean I personally (on rare ocassion) use a little brake kleen to
rinse the residue off the frame.

yeah, i'm not worried about the intercooler boots since that's normal.

the oil underneath the motor is more worrisome but sounds like a common problem. I’ll have it looked at next time I’m over at the dealer.

what years your truck/how many miles ?

i think what youre seeing @ the bell housing is fairly common issue
on NEW trucks...apparently the factory is quite generous w/ the
assembly lube, which can give the appearance of a rear-main seal leak.

im the 1st to admit (even at the boost tubes) that a 50k dollar anything
shouldnt leak...much less DRIP oil.

I have a friend that has as an 05 & when it was brand new it was leaving
"bell housing drips" on the garage floor...w/in the 1st few miles (less than
5k) it stopped.

take it to the dealer, get the problem documented...and keep an eye on
it...if it continues or gets worse (continue) to take the truck back so
the issue is further documented.

It’s an 06 with about 10,000 miles now. I just noticed it so its possible that is been down there since new. I’ll clean it up and see if it continues. If so, I’ll definitely be visiting the dealer to keep things documented on it. Many thanks for the replies!

Hey its the new guy again. Just wanted to say I had a leak on my 04 around the glow plug holes, it was running down on the maifold and burning away.

I went to the dealer to get this fixed. They refused to fix the leak saying that ford has a rule on leaks, If nothing hits the ground on an over nite visit to the dealer Ford would not cover it.

Well I couldnt leave this alone since I just had a 00, F150 burn because of a leak.

I told the dealer he needed to sign a statement saying everything he just told me, He ask why, and I told him about the F150 and if this truck burned ford and his garage would buy me another truck.

His answer can you leave the truck it will be fixed.

Imagine that.
