Hello All,

Long time lurker 1st time poster here. If you can help it might be a little more often :)

I've been in the market for some time now for an SD. I just found a deal that I just can't pass up. It's a 99 F350 Lariat Extended Cab, 7.3, Lariat and it's loaded. 40k miles, yes not 140, for $10.5k. It's not a wreck, I know the owner and all his stuff was immaculate. The only problem I have is my 15m.o. son's carseat. I'm a pretty good sized guy so he's not gonna be sitting in the middle up front. My problem is that when I tried to squeeze the carseat into the back it will sit on the seat but the front part hangs over a bit too much making it rather tippy. I'm wondering of anybody else has had this issue and what if anything they did to resolve it. I've already talked to Ford about the R7C program(carseat tethers) and it's free to have them installed but it sounded like they go in the front and not the back. Right now if I decide to purchase the plan is going to be building a box to bridge the gap between the front and back seat and then cover it with fiberglass on the sides and a interior matching carpeting on top for the car seat to rest on.

Fire away and thanks for reading.

Welcome!!!!! I would think if you could a way to have a steardy base between the center console and the bench in back then even if it hangs in the front a lil it would still be secure... assumin you have captain seats in the lariat... either way just make sure the lil guy is safe!!! good luck..

I forgot that it would make a difference but yes it does have captains so the center console doesn't move.

no, they go on the back seat..
you should see a couple plugs in the carpeting just about at the level of the rear seat back.. that's where they go..

I know the front of the car seat hangs off the small bench seat, but what is the big deal? The lap and shoulder belt go through the car seat and sucks the car seat into the trucks seat. A little overhang doesn't affect the stability of the seat.
Our car seats normally reside in my wifes SUV but on occasion I will throw a car seat in my truck to take my daughter somewhere and have never had a problem. I always put her seat behind the passenger seat, I do have to move the seat forward a little, but again no big deal.
The only problem I could see is if you have a child that is still in a rear facing car seat. but even then I think I might have done it with my daughter when she was born (05). I have never brought my 3 months old son in the truck yet so I would have to try it out.

Having a young child in the front seat is never a good idea but Ford designed the supercabs with the airbag shutoff so you can in a pinch (I still wouldn't do it though)

I agree, but having a Crew Cab, we've never had that problem with the car seat for my granddaughter, who is almost five. A little off topic here: In Texas, they didn't need a car/booster seat when turning 4. However the state legislature just approved a new law requiring booster seats until age 8.
Also, like kingkevindavid said, we put the booster seat on the passenger's side. However, I've also put it in the middle (only problem there with my '02 is there's no shoulder belt-just lap belt). Also, when we had our car (2005 Ford Five Hundred), I'd put her in the booster on the passenger side, then flip down the back of the front seat (the flat fold kind), so she'd have an unobstructed view of the road.

Solution: I bought an '03 6.0 crew cab Lariat. Problem solved, now the carseat fits perfectly. Thanks for the suggestions. Now on to performance enhancements. I can't wait, I pick it up tonight.
