Just curious, is there anywhere (website, dealer, etc.) you can enter a VIN and get a detailed listing of standard features and options purchased when the truck was new? :dunno

I can't think of one right off, but yes, the VIN will tell you what type off engine, how many doors, 4wd or not, etc.

Thanks for the link and feedback everyone. The VIN decoders give all the big stuff, but I was trying to see if I could get info like trim packages, wheel/tire options, upfitter switches, Tow Command, etc.

I've been searching for my replacement truck and have to keep asking about these type of options and I was thinking I'd seen something a long time ago that would give more detail from the VIN.

Actually just made a deal last night on a loaded 2005 F350, XLT, CC, LWB. Won't be able to pick it up for a couple of weeks. Can't wait!

At one time I spoke to my buddy at the Ford dealership parts counter about a truck and he was able to use the VIN number to tell me how the truck was optioned. I remember this because he found out that a truck I was looking at had the dual alternators option. If you have a Ford dealer that you frequent and have a good working relationship with I would think they would be glad to help you by using the VIN to tell you how a truck is optioned.

dito on a dealer
they can run the vin and give you a spec sheet of what was on the vehicle build sheet
its a weird print out but its factual
some dealers may charge you, but most wont if your a customer

I'll give the dealer a try and see what they're willing to do. Thanks for the great advice!

Insurance companies use the VIN to detail every vehicle. Your agent will be able to tell you what is on the truck...

Great idea! I remember seeing lots of detail from the insurance paperwork on my old truck when they totaled it a few weeks ago.
