Can police ignore accidents if they're off duty?

theres a high level of danger involved...they dont know who theyre
stopping to "help" and theres an inherit level of RISK.

a state trooper friend of mine stopped to help a motorist (middle of
the night)...on March 17th 1987....a truck driver who had fallen
asleep behind the wheel mowed Trooper Henderson down and killed
him and TWO of the family members in the car (that was changing the tire)

Here if they stop, they are put on the clock and get paid OT. I think that they should be required to stop. Especially driving a cruiser.

Well, I saw the cruiser pass by me today, almost at the same spot the car flipped over, same guy, I'm pretty sure he lives down that road I mentioned earlier. It still just bugs me that he didn't stop, but oh well.
