Camshaft Timing???

Has anyone ever had a problem with the gear on the camshaft moving? I have heard that the pulley is pressed on the shaft ( Dave at Swamps ) & it can loose it`s fit & start moving front to back , (floating -Jodey @ DP ). If you have had this problem what was the fix??? I have a miss that is bugging me , I have changed -CPS, injectors, wiring, torque converter, IDM. Lots of $$ chasing this problem Help:hail & thanks to all that read.

what problem?
low power gutless wonder?
which is what it would cause..
another cause could be a restricted exhaust

I'm not sure how you would verify that this is the problem without disassembling the engine to check and then I'm not sure exactly how you would check.

If they are simply pressed together and it is simply a matter of friction then I would take the camshaft gear to a machine shop and have them cut the grooves for a keyway. Take your pick that or weld the two together using traditional methods or epoxy welds.

From what I understand the gear has a key to the shaft & if the gear is floating front to back the CPS gets a signal & looses the signal. The problem is a random miss. With foot to the floor it runs like the scalded ape. The exhaust is 4" all the way from the turbo & can make 25 psi in a heart beat. The miss is driving me nuts ( short trip ) & also not getting good milage. I am going to put a dial indicator on the camshaft & rock the crank to see if it moves, when I get off work Sunday.

I'd be willing to bet you have a fickle injector causing the miss. Just because they are new that does not mean they are all "good". For example I just replaced the injector on cyl#8 on my 99'. It was a FORD reman injector. I get it installed and back up running, the engine smoked like so bad I couldn't see 10 feet behind the the truck. Out with the "new FORD reman injector" and in with another of the same. Smoking problem solved.

If you have access to a scan tool, do a cylinder contribution test and see what comes up... it may nail it down for you. If the miss is intermitant or slight, it may not show. I had to wait until it got consistent to see it on mine.
