It sounds as if you have a faulty filter, the system is most likly fine. On the bottom of the filter is a spring and baffel, when the preasure gets to high, the baffel is supposed to open and allow the oil to free flow past the filter. If the Baffel is stuck or if the spring on the bottom of the filter is faulty it would cause the problem you describe. I would get a new filter, I suspect you would be OK after that.

That's what I thought too, so I ordered a new one after the first blowout. It has since done it twice. The second one could be bad as well, but odds are it's something else. I checked both lines (in and out) from the assembly and they're flowing freely. I hate to say it but I'm starting to think Amsoil's bypass filter just doesn't work well.-mad

There should be some sort of warranty information with it. If you still have it, read it carefully. You may be able to send it back and (assuming they refuse to refund) contest the charge with your credit card.

After thinking about it all day today, I think I'm gonna wait to hear from Amsoil on the paperwork I sent in on friday. Assuming they refund my money from the spent oil, I'm going to call and tell them I want to return the assembly as well. Then I'll get the oil guard system.

You will never get your $$$ back from them. Scrap the whole deal and learn a lesson.

Dave

Are you talking about getting money back from Amsoil or getting my money back from money spent on a bypass filter system?

BTW-can somebody tell me how to make multiple quotes in one reply?

Looking at the first picture up above. It doesn't look to me like they gave you the right filter. It doesn't look like the filter boss has a grove or anything to hold the filter's o-ring in place.

Good point, there isn't anything to hold the o-ring in place except the pressure from the filter being screwed on tight. The bottom of the assembly is flat, no grooves or anything. I've got one of the three filters that Amsoil says will work on it (three sizes based on quantity of oil).

Sorry to hear about your troubles and dissapointment with Amsoil. I installed the twin bypass on my 00 X about 3 months and 1500 miles ago and so far so good. It's sounds like the adapter plate. What would be odds of getting 3 bad filters in a row?

My thoughts exactly. I plan on shipping the system back to Amsoil within a week for a refund. We'll see how big an issue getting money back from them is. I've heard horror stories.:cussing:
