Its cool. We all start somewhere. Now just remember to change that filter BEFORE you dump the oil. Otherwise, an extra quart of dirty oil goes to the pan. Let us know when you'll be changing the air filter...thats easy if you know how. If not, well..:eek:

The plastic piece attaches to the top of the inside of the cap. Frequently they do brake and thats why I suspect some filters if not all provide you with a new one along with another o-ring.

Also, as long as you change the filter before you finish draining, this would be ok as well, right?

Or maybe Im just an idiot and extremly confused by this thread.

well yes
i just pop the fiter, put in a new one while I am still relativley clean, then crawl under and pull teh pan bolt and the oil guard bypass.
then refill and clean up

Well, yeah, you could loosen the cap, then go under the truck, start draining, go back up, change filter, put cap back on, go back under, put drain plug back in, then go back up and fill oil. Or just swap filter, then drain oil, then re-fill. Its all up to you. Now I'm confused...:roflmao

Well now... This has got me curious.... I will be changing or at least inspecting the air filter soon. Tell me how to make it easy...
