Boost Question

yes it is a common thing for the donuts to go bad..a lot of us went to bellowd up pipes that do not use the donuts...any soot is a signe of boost loss..the turbo needs that exhaust to spin the turbo....nic's,chips or dusted wheel is also a signe of bad boost...

Thanks for the info Ron. If I find a problem with the compressor wheel, can I replace or should I send it out for rebuild.

A 2k stock will be max of 17lbs boost. As others have mentioned, they start making good power around 2000RPM so that is usually where I tow. I doubt I have ever had the engine above 2500 RPM. Even shifted out of OD it is still going about 60-65MPH when climbing.

You may have a hard time getting max boost without a trailer hooked up,m but you
should see more than 10psi

check to make sure that the wastegate is adjusted properly otherwise you are blowing boost off way too soon.

if there is up and down play in the wheel..get a rebuild kit and rebuild it..any in and out play..the turbo is junk..

And if there isn't any play on the shaft.. you can replace the compreesor wheel yourself. There's a WIKI/DIY on how to do it, here on SDD... either On the engine.. or On yer bench.
