Boost leaking

Ok guys I eluded to this issue in a previous post, but I thought I had this problem fixed. On my '02 F-450 6spd I'm losing a terrible amount of boost. I just had the truck in the shop and had a laundry list of stuff done to it, including brand new dieselsite intercooler boots and valley boots. I really struggle to build even 10psi when pulling a trailer. Much above 10psi I can hear the wastegate fluttering. And sometimes I hear a rushing sound of air, not the normal whistle of the turbo. I talked to the local ford diesel tech and he told me to pull the vac line of the wastegate actuator and see if that helps. Do you guys have any other ideas as to what it might be, or things to try to track it down?

my guess is your up pipes are leaking.

if you replace them, get the ones from international.

Definately unplug the ebpv valve, sounds very similar to a problem a buddy had. The valve could be closed when ur running down the road.( obviously not a good thing). All it does is close when the engine is warming up, to lower emissions. Mine's been unplugged for almost two years. I've never missed it. Just unplug it and see what happens. If it isn't that, just plug it back in. No harm, no foul-and cheap.

Try what your Tech said, about the Red line to the Waste-gate.

Leak in the inter-cooler itself ?

Maybe a leak in a charge tube.. where it's been rubbing on something ?

What bigrigr said too.

While the truck was in the shop the up-pipes were replaced. The motor was out of the truck to replace the oil pan, so the charge tubes were off and inspected. I'm gonna try removing the red line to the actuator and unplugging my ebpv. Thanks again for the advice I'll keep everyone posted when I get a chance to work on it. I guess if that doesn't work the next thing is the intercooler. I looked at while the shop had it out and didn't see any visible signs of a leak. But that doesn't mean it's not leaking.

make sure that the linkage is connected from the air cylinder to the wastegate.

can you rig up a regulated test plug? look at the one on dieselsite or buy it. use a regulator so yo don;t spin the turbo too fast with no oil in the bearings instead of 100psi shop air.

put the test plug gizmo on the air cleaner hose. slowly pressurize it to charge the system. you will hear some air leaking in whichever cylinder valves are open.

i don't agree with disconnecting the EBPV, i think its valuable. to each his own though.

one other thing on the ebpv?

maybe the tube itself is clogged and causing some sort of malfunction? It screws into the passenger side manifold and the other end is just in front of the hpop on the top of the motor. maybe try taking that out and making sure all is clear?:dunno
