Why would my truck sag on driver side rear? I haven't measured it but it's obvious to sitting on level ground, maybe an inch or so. Rear shocks look ok, and they both measure about 23" from bolt to bolt. No obvious cracked leaf springs. I'm not a body guy so don't know what else to check?

Measure to the body and you will find the drivers side is lower. I have seen this on my 2004 F-350. You are always in the drivers seat and not always some one in the passenger seat.

But Dave...I'm not IN it when it's sagging! Well, I guess it's also sagging when I'm sitting in it too. Hey wait, what are you saying, I sprung the springs!! ?

Seriously, for sure it's lower. Maybe its always been that way...I dunno.

I don't think it is unusual to have height variances. My old 99 had a shim under the spring pack on one side and not the other.

Also those springs really sag over time. My truck after 12 years looked like a 2wd until I replaced the springs front and rear.

Most any vehicle can/will sag, on one corner or the other, over time (?) . My 2K took to sagging on the right front.

To verify what you're seeing.. measure from the top of the rear end axle.. to the bottom of the frame rail, on the left & right sides... if there is a dif... add a shim, or two ? Or maybe you have a weak spring leaf (or 2) ?

Joe

For me... Wife said it was a Virgo Thing on the 2K ! Things Have To Be Straight, Plumb, Level and Dead On. She couldn't see it.

I added a coil spring wedge.

It will sag without you in it. You have used the springs on that side more than the other side and it shows whether you are in it or not. They are sagging more on the drivers side than the other side.

ok spring set is what it is. I recall re-arching and adding one spring to each side on the rear of an old 89 f150 I had. It was like a new rig after that. Just gotta find a reliable shop for that around here and compare adding a spring to shims or other options.

Thanks guys.

Edit. Found a spring and suspension shop that will re-arch both sets and slide in one new one, balance it up...$550 or so out the door. Reasonable? I recall $375 about 20 years ago on an 89 F150 so this seems ok to me?

RSG,

It's a bit of a drive from Savoy/Champaign, but Burke Spring in Tilton is about the best place around. They are on Route 1 south of 74 at Ross lane. We've used them for years. The have a general repair shop now, but their specialty for decades was big truck suspension and alignments. They are the goto place in the Danville area for any suspension parts, big or small. Dad still uses them to this day, and all the truck drivers I know from the Fairmount/Jamaica area uses ONLY Burke Spring.

Thanks! Much appreciated!
That's who i went to this afternoon, 25 miles or so across the corn fields.... Set it up for next week since I'm heading that way into Indiana on a work related trip and can just drop it off (and get breakfast at Rich's across the road too). Good to know I got the right folks to do the job!!
