I'm new to the forum and just bought a 2004 F250 with an 6 liter Powerstroke and am thinking about running a biodiesel mix (maybe 60/40?) during the warmer parts of the year here in Montana. Has anyone out there ever run biodiesel in a 6 liter? Would this affect the warranty? I was reading that pure biodiesel could degrade the gaskets and seals in the Dodge Cummins, ( Yellowstone National Park's Bio-Diesel Truck ), but I doubt that a mix would. It seems like a good way to make my beast of a truck a little more environmentally friendly, but I still have about 24,000 left in the factory warranty and 4 years/ 48,000 miles left on the aftermarket warranty and don't want to void it. Anyone have any information about this kind of thing? Thanks in advance for any information or opinions that y'all might have.

Ford's official position on Bio is no more than 5% biofuel and 95% petroleum based fuel is to be used or your warranty will be voided. I have run B99 without any harm. It is NOT the fuel that Ford has a problem with, but the process to make Biodiesel is not standard, like diesel or gasoline.

We have a local coop here in the area that makes biodiesel to ASTM standards, so they say, are certified to sell comercially, wouldn't that be standardized like petro products,or has there not been a standard set for biofuels yet?

Yes there's an ASTM standard. Not everyone produces ASTM fuel, that's why OEM's don't wanna recognize higher percentages. They have no control over waht goes in your tank and lately some dealers will send off fuel samples for testing even with #2. I know we do at the fuel shop I work at if there's a question on fuel quality.
