Howdy All,
Bio-diesel is now close enough for me to to start using it. Is there anything I should know about as far as potential damage to the engine or fuel system? My truck has 310K on it now. The cost of bio diesel at I-20 and Lancaster here in Dallas Tx. is 2.55 pg. Normal diesel is running 2.69 - 2.89 depending where you are. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Craig

You won't even know the difference, and neither will your truck. You WILL have a warm glow-ey feeling that at least SOME of your money is staying here in America, right where it should be!

I've heard that bio diesel is actually good for your fuel system. A local mechanic/friend told me that it will break down any deposits or debris in your system, so be sure to replace your fuel filter after a few tanks. even if you didn't notice any extra debris it will only set you back $5-$10, and maybe increase mileage!

Craig with you having a 95 your truck is pretty much ready to go for BD,you'll just need to change your fuel filter after you go thru the first one or two tankfuls as the BD will clean the entire fuel system like new and will send all the dirty stuff to the filter. I musta gained 2-3psi fuel pressure after my first tankful which had positive effects all the way around:sweet

If I could finish the minor remaining assembly on the processor plumbing I could push a batch thru, buddy of mine has been super busy running his business so I must wait -popcorn :sweet

I'll move this to the Bio-Diesel forum;)

Thanks for all of the replies Fellas! I go tomorrow to get my first tanks, I carry an extra fuel filter so I'll change that out as well after I go thru the bio-diesel. And as HOSS 350 said, at least some of my money will stay state side. CHP where is your buddy? I would be happy to buy fuel to support him. Nothing like knowing who some of my money went to.
See ya',

I didn't have issues with crud coming loose till about 2 months after I started using biodiesel. Probably depends on how hard the deposits in the tank are. Not much warning either. Filter light blinked a few times one morning, and by that afternoon is was plugged enough I was losing power:eek:

If Diesel in your area is say, $2.49.9 and you have a Sam’s Wholesale Club within Driving Distance you can make it happen.

32 Gallons of Diesel @ $2.49.9 = $79.97
8 Gallons of 100% Soybean Oil @ $2.88 = $23.04
$103.01 for 40 Gallons

40 Gallons of That mixture would average $2.57.5 per gallon!!

BTW: the higher the price of the Diesel the closer the average cost!!

That is really only 7.6 cent Higher!!

The less money going to Arabs and Oil Companies the better, I say!!
