didnt know anyone here had that...but yeah thats the thule 550 dollar
rack...and then you add the parts $$$ to carry ****...

its NICE as ****...i wonder how much noise is added from the bikes
flying in the air...or how much mpg suffers...

hopefully barrett will chime in...

BushPilot,

I have not noticed any extra noise. The thing I liked about this rack is the multiple use it provides. It is very heavy duty and without the bike or ski attachments, it's used for ladders, lumber, etc... I also like the ability to have all the bikes very secure, (fits all five of ours), and keeping room in the bed. I carried our bikes in the bed one time, mine tipped over and put a dent in the top of the bed. :cussing:

The majority of the time we are hauling bikes is when we are going somewhere with the trailer, so mpg decrease is negligble (sp) and a receiver mount would never work for me. Also, when we are going somewhere without the trailer, the bike attachments fit on Rachels Excursion in about 5 minutes. I have been very happy with the purchase.

I don't really like the idea of the bikes just hanging out the back, but at least they use the right truck for the job!!! :thumbs

friend of a friend of mine...using that "dakine" tail gate cover...
it is apparently how they do it in california all the time...the guy i
know...his bike is probably big bucks...cause i know the entire
frame & handle bars are made of carbon fiber.

infact he just took a tumble and busted the handle bars...
rumored to be somewhere NORTH of 150 bucks...crunch !

my point is apparently theyve seen absolutely NO signs of
damage to the tailgate/paint and if these guys trust it w/
their multi thousand dollar bikes i guess its ok...

not for me but apparently it works for them.

imagine having somewhere between 5-15k (or more) dollars
worth of bikes hanging over your tail gate....YIKES !

bush, I'm sure you've considered making a rack for the hitch to hold a bike + cooler, that way you free up a little bed space. It will not work if you get a camper, though. Not much help, but its my :2c
