The factory hoses on the SDs have quick disconnects and I paid $120 for one hose at the dealer, it was made by aeroquip. The OBS's I believe don't have the QD fittings and have JIC connections on the hoses. Any competent hose shop should be able to make a new hose.

AA Sales on Polk St. here in Amarillo is an AeroQuip dealer. I use FluidLine(Parker dealer) on 10th Street for all my hoses. If you can take the hose off and show it to them it shouldn't be a problem, there may be a rating number to use for replacement hose. Also make sure they know the line can see 3000psi sustaine pressure on long WOT runs and is subject to pulse from the injection system. Also that the oil temp can be ~230 degrees F.

Just one more question -- these part numbers for the oil lines refer to RH or LH. Is that from looking at the engine, or from the back?

RH = Pass side
LH = Driver side
?

I'd like to visit this topic again....

I just made another long trip pulling our travel trailer. I was loosing oil like crazy! I stopped about every 100 - 125 miles or so and it would be approx 2 qts low each time. Looking at the top of the engine where I had suspected the problem to be originally, it doesn't look that bad -- bad as in losing 5 - 6 gallons of oil over the trip.

When you hear people talk about their "rear main" seal going out, where is that, easy tips to check to see if it may be the culprit? How likely is it that tha's the problem? I have 244K on the truck now if that makes a difference.

Is it dripping on the ground (if external leak it should be)? If not, Drain the fuel bowl into a jar and check the color. If it's very dark, your injector o-rings are history. Cheers!

Yes, definitely external.

When I cleaned the valley, I took out the fuel bowl to clean it up a little, color was OK...

If its rear main you would have an oil slick from the bell housing to the rear differential if the leak is as bad as you say. I am betting on injector o-rings here.

Well -- when you say oil slick...

It's bad enough that it drips off of the rest of the frame (even off of the frame of my trailer after pulling it...)

It doesn't leak (much anyways) when not running. I think it's just residual leaks finishing dripping

A couple of other items to check: The dipstick tube where it goes into the pan (the big nut), and also check to see that the flywheel inspection cover has not rubbed a hole in the oilpan. I've had both happen to me. Both will leave a pretty good "trail" with the engine running. Cheers!

Just wanted to update this situation -- I ended up taking this to the shop to replace my rear main seal...

Patrick was right, the big problem was the dust cover rubbed a hole into the oil pan. The rear main was "seeping", so it didn't hurt anything to go ahead & replace that. I haven't personally seen the hole so I'm not sure how big it is, if it could be seen without removing the tranny, etc.
