Another vote for 2000 here, again for the reasons mentioned above

I'll go against the grain here a little. Yes the 00 was the last year for the forged rods but if I were looking for a good dependable 7.3 and 450 hp wasnt the agenda I would definetly go find a clean low mileage 03 for the reason Richard stated, the last year is usually the best for little bugs and annoyances to be worked out.
If you are a HP junkie the forged rods can be bought and installed in the 01+ engines if the need arises. The 7.3 was a helluva good engine all the way around, its too bad it had to go. As we go forward it is going to become increasingly harder to find good clean used 7.3's. Heck the 00's are nearly a decade old now.
