so when pulling (~16,000lbs) have a tough time keeping my EGT below about 1200(this is on passes) what is some of the best ways to lower the EGT's....i have a 4inch cat back with a 4in down pipe, Super chip(tow), intake.....would it help to remove the cat and do a 5inch exhaust (is 5inch to much?) bigger intercooler etc. this reading is post turbo..

also what is to high for EGt's when pilling?

thanks in advance

Nick, tell us a little about your truck. (Makes it easier for us to help) Try one of the cat test pipes to see if you cat is plugged up. 5" exhaust wont help much for lower temps just looks better and deeper sound. Maybe a different chip, Tony Wildman comes to mind, much better than a programer that is made to work for a 94 to 03 powerstroke. Let us know.

truck is a early 99 F-350. 4 inch catback.....thing is colorado will no longer be doing emissions so no need for the cat i figured :).....yea so i got the super chip(tow) 4ich cat back, air intake, banks exhaust brake, shurlock torque converter (banks), other then that everything else is factory....i tow a 28ft fifth wheel and a 20ft boat behind that.....was thinking about getting a MBRP Dual 4in turbo back and a larger intercooler but not sure if that would help.....what bout alcohol injection....anything to get those numberd down.

thanks

In a van down by the river...
1200 post-turbo is waaaaaaaaaaaaay too high to sustain for anything beyond a few seconds. Any mod to improve airflow will help keep EGT's down and you might want to consider chitcanning the Superchips tunes and going with DP-Tuner/Twildman tunes...

Get a flip chip from DP-Tuner. I have their 60HP chip and it works fine. Hits 1200 once in a while when I do get on it hard. We shall see what happens next year with my 6.0 intercooler.

Are you sure your EGT readings are post turbo? If so that is (1200) too high, especially when towing a 16K load.

I installed a DI Intercooler (http://www.dieselinnovations.com/di.php?page=products&cat=1) and it dropped towing EGT's by 200 degrees and from 50-100 degrees when not towing. The biggest improvement is that my EGT's also climb at a slower rate. I bought it right after towing my 31' 5th wheeler to Basalt, Colorado and my EGT's were constantly spiking. Between the intercooler and Tony Wildman's tow programs I have not had a problem with EGT's. I have two tow positions on my chip. One for flat terrain and one for climbing the steeper grades. You can't go wrong with Tony Wildman (http://members.cox.net/totaldieselperformance/total%20diesel%20performance.html) Whichever chip you chose I would recommend having the OD shift point changed from 45-55 mph. Works great!
