Getting ready to do head gaskets, studs, egr delete and powermax turbo on my 04. I havent had any head gasket problems at this point with 160,*** on the clock. Ive seen alot of debate about head gaskets and was wondering what everyones opion is on the best.

For what it's worth there are 3 things that are key for head gasket replacement.
1) Skill of the technician: If it's not torqued properly it's going to have issues.
2) If the heads are not checked and decked properly it's going to have issues.
3) If the gaskets have quality control issues it's going to have issues.

If any one of the above fall short the whole job will become suspect.

I used the OEM gaskets due to the 12mo/12k miles parts warranty.

All I have read lately says to use the OEM ones. No experience with either since I have not done studs yet (knock on wood:eek:)

ive done about fifteen sets of head studs and gaskets and used the black onyx gaskets everytime and never had an issue with them. but i send the heads out evertime to get them decked and checked out, i think its the key to doing any six liter head gasket replacement. and what heavy assualt has mentioned too.

Black onyx for sure I've used them on several occasions and any head off of any type of motor should always be checked for warpage and decked if necessary or replaced if not within spec.
