just bought the truck a few weeks ago. it is an 02 F-350 and i want to
start in on her, but not sure where to start. i plan to take a step by step approach to making the truck stronger while improving the mileage. i will tow and do some off-road weekends, but most of the use will be back and forth to work. thanks for the help in advance.:sweet

If your New To You PSD is Stock ?

1. A set of gauges. EGT, Boost and Trans Temp.

2. A Bigger, Better Air filter system, to increase the Intake air flow.

3. A bigger diameter exhaust system, with a low restriction muffler.

Then start reading our signatures, post questions and using the SDD Search Feature.

It NEVER ENDS my friend.... It NEVER ENDS. :lmao:lmao;tu

OBTW.. WELCOME TO SDD :sweet:sweet

welcome!

i would say do the air cleaner DIY, hutch mod for fuel, fpr shims, hx crossover, 209 thermostat. those are cheap. save your bread to do coolant filter, then gauges then whatever your heart desires.

What is the hutch mod for fuel, fpr shim, hx crossover?

Hutch mod: R&R the mixing valve in the tank, on the fuel pick-up assembly. Reduces air in the fuel. (you can/should R&R the fuel pump Inlet fitting to reduce possible air intrusion too)

FPR shim mod: Shimming the FPR spring.. to increase the OEM fuel pressure UP.. to 65/70 psi.

HX crossover mod: Install a high pressure crossover oil line... to equalize the HPOP psi.. between the oil rails, on each head.. that operate the Injectors.

These inexspencive Mods ('bout 100 bucks) can/will make a 7.3 run much better.. All can be found in the DIY/WIKI feature.

thanks Joe. After performing the fuel pressure mod, does it cause any problems with the stock system because of the higher fuel pressure?

I also have a 2002 F350.

I added the (3) pillar gauges (boost-pyro-volt) didn't do the trans gauge only because I do no towing.

Added AIS Intake:sweet

Added 4" MBRP Exhaust (staight piped):sweet

Truck runs better, quicker turbo spool, turbo is louder, fuel milage has increased a little. :sweet

thanks Joe. After performing the fuel pressure mod, does it cause any problems with the stock system because of the higher fuel pressure?

no, quite the opposite..
it atomizes fuel better in the combustion chamber for a more complete burn..
the fuel system will take the extra pressure.

first thing I'd do..
Complete a full round of routine maintenance.
Not change the oil and wash & wax it, but start at the goose-egg and change every fluid, filter and grease, ending at the license plate.

2. "Tymar" or "DIY" or "6637" intake mod..
all the same thing... basically removing the stock airbox and replacing it with a conical filter.. the "6637" refers to the NAPA part number for the filter element.
A lot of guys do what's called a Zoo-Dad mod.. which is drilling/cutting a hole in the fiberglass header panel just ahead of the stock filterbox intake opening for a "ram-air" effect.. the fanciest & best thought out is Bama Six Gun's version.. I think he has pictures in his photo gallery...

I threw my 6637 away when it kept getting all wet.. my truck doesn't have a splash baffle.. did the Zoo-Drill (Swiss-cheesed it)

3. Shim the fuel pressure regulator

thanks so much!

wow i was expecting the air filter and the exhaust but the other stuff i would have never even thought of. i can't wait to get to the diy section and find these mods. are they pretty simple to do? i mean in the driveway w/ no special tools. i guess i should do these things before i invest in a DP chip?;tu

Yep.. every one of the mods mentioned so far can be done in the driveway/garage, with common hand tools and wrenches. If you have basic mechanical abilities ?... Simple Stuff to do.

Yul get more out of yer stock PSD..... and then.. your Chip, or Programmer.

Read & Print the DIY/WIKI, walk yerself thru the steps.. do the work, and if you have any questions along the way... Post them, Many of us will be more than glad to assist. It's what SDD.com is all about.
