I noticed a chattering noise coming from the front of my truck a couple of weeks ago. It continued to get worse so I took it to a mechanic that changed my alternator and he said my belt was bad. I only have 60,000 miles on my truck. Doesn't that seem early to have a belt worn out. I thought he may of done something wrong when he replaced alternator.

Look at the ribbed side of the belt and check for cracks. Pry and pull the belt to see the cracks more exposed. There could be other components making the noise other than the alt.
