My engine belt keeps riding up/over the lip over the pulley on my A/C compressor. I think its the pulley between this pulley and my altenator causing this. Any ideas how to fix this problem? It didn't start untill replaced my idler/tension pulley, but it looks to be in-line with my compressor pulley.:dunno

I'd say the Belt is getting weak.. un-even tension across it's width (broken plys) is causing it to ride up.. over the pulley. OR... the Tensioner pulley is weak... not keeping the belt tight.. causing Lash... letting the belt "Walk".

Joe

R&R the belt first. Once those S belts "Jump" a pully.. they're purdy much Toast/Shot.

I have a spare belt behind the back seat. I'll throw it on this weekend and see if that does the trick. Thanks

I would guess that it is a bad tensioner. When you change the belt, check the tensioner pulley for loose fit, like a worn out bearing.

the tensioner is under the A/C.. the one to the right in your pics is just an idler.

your belt is shot. probably the idler bearing too.

did you change the water pump recently? if not, and you change the tensioner and the belt, you are going to change the water pump out soon too.

The only front engine pulley I have replaced is the right side tensioner pulley. That belt is only about 4 months old. Is rides right there pretty rugularly and I dont notice any increase in wear. but still, its not right it any way and I want to get it fixed. I'm thinking me and my dad might have put the tensioner pulley on backward. We got kinda confused when we put the new one back on. We pressed the old bearings out of the old pulley and I have the pulley with the worn bearings zip tied in my tool box. I bet if I buy some new bearings and put my old one back on that may fix it. Anyone have pics of this pulley as to which way it goes on?

Not it.... the washers that held the internal spring in had broken. So the internal spring (that keeps the tension) was also pushing out.
