Hi everyone.

I cross posted this in TDS but thought everyone may find the info interesting:

Battery time Turck is 3 years and 1/2 month old and I dont plan to get and OPTIMA.
Interstate Batteries were highly recommended but not easily available and expensive.
Motorcraft is highly recommended but expensive.
There are Costcos Wally Worlds and hopefully Autozones everywhere for warranty issues.

So here is what i have found all three are made by Johnson Controls Inc (So is Motorcraft for that matter):

Costco - Kirkland Signature
Part #4
700 CCA
$49.99

WalMart - Everstart
Part #MAXX-65
850 CCA
$58.34

Autozone - Duralast Gold
Part #tbd
1000 CCA
$69.99

So I think the Walmart 850 CCA would be fine or the Autozone (they acutally have a 850 and 1000 CCA battery) would be fine. I think the Costco 700amps would work fine but doesnt seem enogugh CCAs for $100.

The Walmart for $120 a pair seems like they have enough CCA and the price is good.

I think I am going with 2 of the 1000 CCA Autozone Duralast Golds spend the $140 and be done with it for three years.
I did put 2 of the Kirkland Signatures on my old 7.3 and they were fine.

Any comments or suggestions from anyone. Going tonite.
Thanks,
Terry

Optima's are owned by Johnson Controls also. I'm an Optima fan - still have the first one I ever bought that was back in the early/mid 90's. That one I bought from the local Interstate distributor since they were the only ones that carried them at the time. I hadn't ever heard of them but when I explained what I wanted - that's what the rep said I needed.

I don't know what this means about my truck, I am sure that it is not good, but it chews up batteries less than 1000 CCA. If I go with anything else they wear out sooner. Crazy I know. Would love to have Optimas one day. Rarely hear anything bad about them.

I went with some Durastarts from our local Fleet store, $50 each 1000 cca with a 5 year warrenty. I have had these before and can't complain, but I have had interstate before too and they are good batterys. The originals went 4 years so if I get that from these I'll be happy.

Duralast - 8yr warranty, 3yr free replacement, 5yr prorated.

Last set died at 3yrs-2mths.

Batteries are like beer............you don't really buy them. You are just renting them for a while. :D

Batteries bought... See updated info here...

I found out the Costco and the Walmart both only had 700 CCAs. My stock battery had 850 CCA so I dont think the 700 CCAs meets our needs. It would probably work ok, but....

So last night went and bought two duralasts at Autozone. $69.99 each. Maybe I paid more than I should have, normally I try not to do that. But it is done. I am going to the ranch this weekend and cant afford to have a dead battery out there.

A side note it also seemed to fix my idle wander that started about 2-3 weeks ago.

I will always stick with Motorcraft. They have did me an excellent job. I changed the stock battery's in my 96' last winter just because I thought it was time but the old ones are now in my 75' and still going strong. 10 years on a set of batteries speaks for itself. the battery's in our 00' Excursion were still the original ones too when we traded it in last month. 6.5 years on them. I think I paid around $75 each for the new Motorcrafts I put in my 96'.
