I'm sure there's a battery thread around here somewhere, but I must have missed it.

Ok, I need some new batteries for my truck. I want to be able to pick them up, so no mail order. What brands do you use?

I used to buy interstate batteries, always performe dwell
then my 02 had ford batteries and i never had any issues with them for 65k miles when she was sold.
but if i was going to replace em i think i would lean towards a gell cell just for the ability to hold up to the heat and vibration of alabama roads:D

Hi James,

I went with two 850cca "Yellow Top" Gel-cells, from SEARS. Prolly paid Premo but there is a SEARS anywhere you go. Big Plus for me.

I'v had them for about a year.. NO problems what so ever.

:dunno

Yellow Top Optimas? Nice, but you're right - a little expensive.

As a general rule - is the higher the CCA the better?

The more CCA the better. Cold Cranking Amps.If your running a diesel you should always get the heaviest duty battery you can find.

Yep, Optimas. The more CCAs the better (to a point). The OEM Batts lasted 3 years. I had two Die-Hards, one went bad so SEARS pro-rated'm. Got >Some< off the the Optimas. I think the wholle thing came to about $300.00.

I kinda go with the: You get what you pay for.

James,I've read the Costco brand batteires have had very good results in our Powerstrokes and for the price of $49 each that makes it all the better:sweet

I bought a set of batteries from Sam's Club for my International and they performed very strong:)

I have a friend who lives near Brians truck shop and use him for all the work done on his 99 F-350. Brian says to stay with the batters that came in your Ford Truck. So he went and got two new Motorcraft batters and is very happy with them.:thumbs

I have two Interstates that do the job well, but I am always cleaning up after them to keep my rig from rusting. Will be using gel cells next time round. I got 9 years out of my first redtop in the Nova. Bryan
