Bad Misdiagnosis-Need Help!!!

Help me. I took my 2000 F250 4x4 w/7.3 and auto into the shop last week. It started making a horrible sound at idle. As soon as I take it off idle, the sound would go away. Took it to the shop, had a friend listen to it, as well as 3 other diesel techs. They all said they had never heard the sound before, but it kinda sounded like a torque converter. Since the truck has 165,000 miles on it, decided I should rebuild it. I haul about 8K lbs on trailer throughout California. Reinstalled trans, and the sound is still there. The techs dont even know what it is.


Any SUGGESTIONS, has anybody else heard of this!!!

Sounds like a noisy Torque Convertor to me.

I know mine is really noisy and loud, but it ain't stock

Also, I don't think this post should be here since the truck ain't down

Truck is down

Yeah, the truck is down, it is sitting on the dealer rack, and nobody can tell me what is wrong with it. I have a bill to pay, and no truck, supposed to go out of town tomorrow morning........yeah, the truck is down.

Eh, Sorry about that, I didn't catch that part, I though it was running again.

Does it run ok? Shift ok? Just noisy?

Hey Big K, I really appreciate your quick response. Just got a call from my friend, and he found out that it was a broken flywheel. So, I rebuilt my trans when I didn't need to, have to put some more money into it, but at least I have a new trans, that is just the way I have to look at it.
