Help Needed backfire or what?

I have an 04 6.0 F250, i'm wondering if anyone has experienced a strange backfiring sound when you lay off the throttle or shut off the cruise, when running hard for short distances, or when towing a trailer. It almost sounds like a mini jake brake, but lasts only a second or two.. Thanks.

You are hearing what is known as a "Turbo Fart". Its harmless.

You also may be looking at Turbo vanes that are beginning to stick, aka, rust.

I have the same problem,03' 6.0, i tried a afe cold air intake and the problem got worse it started to fart and smoke around 2k to 3k rmp. sounds like a misfire on a diesel(weird).
