you know that saying about being overweight and someday it will catch up

well in nov we headed out and ended up eating a hub, tire and pavement
not much to see here folks but new set of 5200lb axles that replaced the 3500 lbers.

you see we had been bouncing around just a tad over...some 600 lbs and it finally gave up the ghost

new wheels and axles.....now the trailer needs repainting
we were ok with the 2wd pickup on the deck
but the 4wd stretched us a bit..........

How did it get into the hub?

whole outer race came apart and ran through the outer hub bearing surface...it was cool
lucky was it didnt fall off

My cargo trailer and car hauler both have #3500 axles and they have always made me nervous so my new 20' enclosed trailer that is on the way was special ordered with the #5200. Most utility/car/enclosed trailers seems to be standard with the #3500 but it never seems to be enough or make sense. Why spec a trailer that weighs #3000 with axles that will only pack another #4000 when the trailer itself could haul twice that. Must be a penny pinching deal.

I built a trailer in the 1980s and I used 5000 pound axles so I could haul about 7000 pounds. The trailer bounced quite a bit.

confusing as crap, this trailer was speced out to be 7k gvwr.... came with 3500lb axles
first trip with the 2010 f150, we blew out a tire and swapped them all out for 225s
then upgraded the bulldog coupler to 12k
ran a heavy pin and was all good

then the 2013 kr is a bit heavier.... so it was just a wait and see game, last summer we bottomed out in some road construction and tweaked the axles...as in bent them enough they pointed inward at the top.
so i straightened them past 90 and they held up one more trip
so now the 5200s should give us the added squish factor, she tows real well now and no bouncing.
new 16" wheels will be next as the 15's are maxed out tire capacity wise, well i have 1200 lbs of wiggle room...
