when i have my hubs in the auto position, shouldn`t i beable to spin the axle shafts by hand?....i checked the other day and i couldn`t turn them. i haven`t had much expierience with the vaccum operated hubs. i know these aren`t very reliable set up, at the best of times....i think they should spin freely when in 2wd mode....thanxs

Yes, your tires should spin seperately from your axles. Having it in 2wd with auto hubs should be the same as unlocking manual hubs. I have never checked mine but that is how they should work. Also are they maybe in the manual position, I know I can't see the writing on mine to tell wether they are in the manual or auto position.

that is what i thought. they are brand new hubs with only about 10000km on them....they are in the auto position, double checked that....i guess i will have to do some investigating....

you should be able to grab the front drive shaft and turn it if not one or both hubs are locked in and you got a problem. or transfer case never unlocked

that is the thing....driveshaft does spin, but the axleshafts don`t. i know with my other trucks that i`ve had with free wheeling, that all shafts spun...even ones that had auto hubs to, like my 94 f-150....will look into it some more....maybe i am missing something....

ATK, When you have your truck in the 2wd mode, with the hubs in the auto position you should be able to spin the drive shaft and both axle shafts. The lock setting on the hubs is really just a manual override (back-up) for when the auto function doesn't work.
