decided to go with the Franchi I-12. Went to bass pro today so I could get my hands on some of the guns and the franchi feels great and is in my price range. I think that the "inertia drive" sounds like a good system. I should be picking it up thursday and I will take it out this weekend to test it out.

BERETTA!!!!
BERETTA!!!!
BERETTA!!!!

I used to shoot competitive trap/skeet and we would have vendors bring their guns out all the time. I have put a lot of rrounds through a lot of guns. I am personally a huge Beretta fan....and if you are interested I have a nice 390 semi auto for sale.....but if you like the SBE, you should buy the Stoeger. They pretty much copied everything about the SBE, it just looks a little different.

Bennelli's are overpriced in my opinion. Heck....even the Winchester and the Browning semiautos are good guns.

Get a gas auto though.....your shoulder will thank you with those 3 1/2 inch roman candle loads!!!

the beretta model i wanted was over $1100 and unfortunately out of my price. i looked and an Rem 11-87 SPS and a Browning Gold Stalker both for $800, but i didn't like how they felt and how heavy they were.

the franchi is a 3" chamber, so i don't have to worry about the heavy loads. It also has Benelli technology like the stoeger but I'm worried that the Stoeger is just too cheap. The Franchi also has a magazine catch so you can empty the chamber without charging a new round, that will come in handy.

I have owned 2 stoeger over/unders and they were fantastic, tough guns. They are nothing fancy.......which is why the price is so low.......but they are built tough and won't break.

Franchi is one gun I don't know much about. A buddy of mine has a Franchi o/u and likes it.

are you SET on an autoloader?
I bought a Winchester 1300 darn near 20 years ago, and that sucker has it's share of turkeys, deer, and pheasants on it...

the one thing it really blows for is waterfowl... barrel is too short to generate any respectable velocity with steel loads...

I suppose I could get a bird barrel for it, but then again, I have Dad's old Auto 5 with a telephone pole-length barrel on it, and that just does fine...
