Take a look in the Powerstroke manual that came with the truck. It states very clear that it is normal for some oil use. This line is on the page that says how to check the oil.

Over filling the oil can be worse that have it a little low. Add 14qts and then see how it looks. Manual states to check the oil after 20mins of sitting. I check mine every month or so and usuallyhave to add a qt during the 5000m oil change interval.

I usually run in the middle of the hash section, any higher and it burns off preety fast until it settles to the middle of the hash section.

Could be that if the engine doesnt show burnoff that there is a problem of a leaking injector and adding fuel to the oil, might want to check that if the oil stays the same level.

it's fifteen quarts, like Frankenstien said... I use 4 full gallons when I change mine...

that being said, you have an oil consumption problem. Anything over 1 qt/1000miles is excessive... check the dumb stiff first, oil filter seal, oil drain plug gasket, etc... might want to degrease the whole engine (do it at the quarter car wash) and see where it starts dripping after a couple of days...

if you're not checking the oil at every fuel stop, that's just plain asking for trouble...

With the quarter car wash you will blow water into all of the electronic connectors. Then you will probaby have some real problems, now and later.

More than a qt in 1000-miles is what they concider a problem. Even under warrenty they wont do anything unless that is met. Many have found that
if the oil is full to the top of the hash, the top qt burns off. I leave it in the middle if the hash and have very little consumption. I add 14 qts and make sure the level is in the middle and leave it
