I think my driveshaft center support is toast. The shaft will move inside of it and it looks like the rubber is detached from the housing. I was just curious how it comes off. Since I have a 2 peice shaft, can I just slide the shaft apart and pull off the old bearing and slide on the new one?

I was looking at mine today as I pulled the trans and transfer case to replace the flexplate (long story)

Mine will also move (it looks to be suspended in the center by rubber webbing but is toward the bottom of the support) so I asked my friend that was helping me to check it out, he says it looks and seems normal, he knows alot about deisels so I figure he is right. He also said that the part is a pain in the ass to change since it has to be pressed onto the shaft.

they're really not all that great big a deal to do...
I did mine chasing a vibration about 40,000 miles ago...

if the rubber seems weak, it is, and if it's separated from either steel piece, it's junk.

Is it just a rubber bushing per se, or is it actually a bearing? It really has to be pressed?!? It's on the front half of the shaft, so hopefully this won't be a big deal. I have a press at work if needed.

it is pretty easy to replace , just need a puller ,to pull the bearing off. then before putting the new one on, clean the shaft a little, and slide it on. should be about a 30min job . make sure to put the shims back the way they came, if shimmed. hope this helps.

I have replaced mine twice. Last time I did it I used an air chisel with a punch style end to walk the old bearing off.
