New without a clue
Be very careful looking at the Wildcat or any other lower line Forest River products. FR seems to be one of the worst when it comes to build quality and overall fit and finish. Value/content for the dollar is good with Forest River, but you will pay for it in the end more often than not. The higher lines such as Cedar Creek and Cardinal are better, but I have heard plenty of horror stories with those as well. They have some fabulous floor plans and options dressed up with beautiful colors/trims, just pay real good attention to what's underneath all of that!
As was mentioned, dealer knowledge/service is the key with ANY rv. Buy from a reputable dealer that knows how to do more than just "push" units. Service after the sale is something you are positively going to need with any brand. It's just the nature of the product. Your buying assembly line manufactured housing!
We camp as a "family unit" (in laws and ourselves/daughter) and have just wrapped up picking out a replacement unit for a Forest River disaster that was bought new in July 2005. This was a Cherokee model which is another one of their lower priced lines. After nearly 10 trips to the dealer and one trip back to the factory in Indiana, we are finally rid of that lemon. The dealer didn't help the situation (unit pusher), but the trailer itself was just sub par. Fit, finish, slide out leaks, many issues. Going back to the manufacturer only caused other problems in lieu of the ones they attempted to fix.
Shop hard, and pick your dealer wisely!
As far as Keystone, our shopping revealed these to be some of the better units. The Montana, Mountaineer and Cougar lines are some of the most popular on the market for there respective price ranges.
We ended up going with a Fleetwood product, which are also IMO, of higher build quality than many others. It arrives near the end of January. VERY excited!
Best of luck with your search. Take your time and really look ANY brand/model over closely.
