WOW Stroker.. I meant no personal Harm nor Foul.

No worries Joe, none taken at all. I enjoy good debate as much as the next guy as long as its built on truth.

I don't recall the exact numbers but it was 50+ MPGs for the trip. They claimed that with further testing, design and development.. their concept, they felt, was capable of 120 MPG >in some applications< >IF< America was willing to step away from the "Muscle Car" and the "Boat Sized Tanks".

I hate to snip the rest of your post as it was good but you hit it right here with the text I bold/italicized.

Fast forward to Y-2008. Have we stepped aside from our muscle car and boat sized tanks yet? Which of the Big 3 doesnt have a muscle car in the line up? Which of the Big 3 arent playing to the heart strings of the Baby Boomers who WANT those muscle cars? Cripes the Big 3 are making the muscle cars LOOK like they did in the late 60's early 70's. Which of the Big 3 isnt offering a ridiculously appointed over sized testosterone laden diesel pickup today that is capable of equal to or more than most medium duty and some SEMI's could handle 40 years ago?

Now, I ask 1 final question for you to answer (or anybody, this isnt a personal shot at you Joe ;) ), who has asked for this stuff and why is the Big 3 providing it?-popcorn

2008: No we haven't stepped out of our Muscle Cars or Tanks. But we did for awhile. Now we're Stepping back in. The gutless crap of the 70s, early 80s, along with Imports, Dern near Ruined the Big 3.

Then they started to pay attention. They had to. Status quot didnt work anymore. We wanted something Sporty, something Quick.. Like Dad usta have.

Enter the RV. We wanted something that would pull one.

This all leads back to to the MYT guy. We should wish him well. A new innovative concept. But.. he will have to compete with some REALY big entities (or sell the concept(s) to one of them)

Wunder what they would do with it.:) ;)

1. Soccer Moms
2. Nascar Dads
3. Suburban families with "disposable income"
4. Urbanites looking to impress their neighbors

Big Three discovered they could sell a lot more of their products if they dressed them up a little... and marketed them to the people that would turn one every couple of years, not hang on to them untill they faded into oblivion like most farmers did.

The truck became a status symbol, not a tool.

Goes back to what I was saying on the fuel price thread... we made our bed. Time to lie in it.

Sounds to me like you guys already know the answers to most of the questions so why is it The Big Three's fault and Big Oils fault? Is it because it is easier to blame someone else for our predicaments rather than to take and introspective look at things?

Well if it reaches fruition and is actually used in a vehicle will the public buy it? Rotary engines were and still are to some extent a novelty. Not that many on the road. Lets say this powerplant gets adopted by XYZ corp and is going to be released in a small SUV. How long will it take to make it fit, make it safe, and make it work with all the components? How much will the R+D cost and how much of that gets charged back to the buying public? How about emissions? How long for an EPA rating and a way to rate it? Now, after all this money has been spent, will it sell? This would be quite a gamble for any manufacturer to take. Just my .02

I can only speak for me, but.. It's not BIG Anybodies FAULT. It's a collective thing. We want it? They WILL make it. It's the Cost, the Price Gouging, and just the pure Greed.. that BIG ANYBODY dumps onto the consumer.

Any [New] energy source that's outside the BIG ANYBODY, Corporate Norm.. or to coin a new phrase: GREEN, like Solar, Wind, Water, Corn, Salt Grass, MYT guys engine, Soy Beans, Bovine Scat (;) ),On & On.. Will be Hard Pressed to make it work when they have to Buck Up against the Corporate Norm. Unless, of course, they can have a BIG piece of the action and revenues from it.

NASCAR DAD

Right now, I think, BIG ANYBODY, has been caught with their pants down. "Green" things are in the.. not to distant future. BIG ANYBODY is doing their level best to, at least, stifle things until the can get on-board with it.. in some way.

Back to the MYT guys engine ? The in-line 4, 6 and 8. The V 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 have been "The Norm" for a long time. There's a HUGH, World Wide infra-structure that would be affected by his.. "Little Engine That Could"

Tough times ahead for the MYT guy.
