Matter of fact it is what they use to deice aricraft with in the snow, and I know the airlines likes to keep at least 5000 gals on hand at all times, can't count on the trucks when the weather gets real bad.

Look at numbers 7 and 10

Half life, I believe, is 10 years in a stable room temp environment.

It will decompose and release HAZARDOUS carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide if heated to beond stability (best not to store in the hottest part of the garage. It is not a carcinogen. It should not hurt you to use in the manner you described. The operative words being SHOULD NOT. While it has not been proven as a carcinogen it also hasent been proven that it isnt.

Use at your own risk.

Thanks! Actually it's been used for years already for what I want to do with it - I'll store it in the basement - nice and cool.

One of the reasons I was trying to find out how it works and shelf life is that as I stated the magic numbers most use for a humidor is 70% humidity which a 50/50 solution does.

But there are people who like less - say 60 to 62% and some like it higher, maybe 72%.
So the question in my mind is why can't I mix it for the various percentage? We are talking marketing a product here. So if I mix it in different percentages will it change it's humidity level - or not? Anyway - thanks for all the tips and leads. Hopefully it all pans out to help pay for some truck toys :D

propolyene glycol is also a small food additive, it gives the effect of fat in low fat foods, preserves consistency, ensures a longer lasting homogenous mixture, in salad dressings and the like.
in small quantities its deemed SAFE for consumption, it wil lalso increase regularity (going poop) if used in higher doses

as for a cigar humidor ???
I will ask our chemical engineers when they come in

If I am correct the glycol only helps to keep the water from evaporating as quickly as it would by itself. To control the actual humidity you will need to control the temp also. The temp and amount of water together determines the actual amount of water vapor in the environment (humidity). The water will evaporate at a given rate per degree of temp, so to keep XX% of humidity you will need to control the rate of evaporation.

So - if you figure things even up - I'd be spending $256 bucks for 2 gals store bought or $20 bucks for 2 gals. that I mix. That extra $236 bucks could buy me quite a few more cigars there.

I ain't no chemical expert or a mathematician but the way I figure it you could buy the two gallons for $20 and then throw away what you don't use and be money ahead of the $256 route but like I say I ain't no expert :dunno
