Happy memorial day, boys and girls! First and foremost, BE SAFE! Second, and almost equally important, remember why we're getting this long weekend. It's for guys like Robert and Tailgunner that kept an eye on our enemies for their entire career, and all of those boys and girls "over there" who haven't had a long weekend in four years because they've been too busy fighting for our ability to be lazy and drink too much on a long, three-day weekend. It's for our grandparents who fought and died in far-off places like Normandy, Iwo Jima, Saipan, Holland, France, and Germany to ensure that brutality and death stayed far from our shores. For our parents who went to Korea and Vietnam to stop the spread of evil from contaminating shores too close to our own.
I, having never served, cannot even begin to thank them for their sacrifice. They earned something for me that I did not for myself. Don't forget that. Take a moment to remember.
